Giulio and the pumpkins

Giulio Gargani is 26 years old, currently studying Agricultural Science at the University of Florence and cultivates the lands of his family, following the same path of his great grandfather. For two generations the land was only being cultivated for the needs of the family, but today Giulio decided to expand onto the outside, making the land his work to which he dedicates himself with fulfilling passion and enthusiasm.
The results of his work can be “tasted” by eating his delicious and crunchy vegetables.

Giulio is a young farmer who in 2013, created his own website www.agrime.it where he assembled a group composed by various Tuscan farmers who cultivates their own lands following the principals of organic and integrated agriculture.
Short supply chain and products of great quality at fair prices both for the farmer and the consumer.
Visitors of his website will be able to have information about the farmers and a precise outlook on where all products come from.

Right after the online order is placed, there are two/three locations where it is possible to pick up the goods.

I am always very excited for the Wednesday where I come back home with my Agrimè groceries, chasing those slow nails coming out of the salad and the broccoli.
With Giulio, you can talk of land, vegetables, animals and so many other subjects, even cooking. Although… when we met, he sent his grandmother to the cookers to prepare a delicious pumpkin with tomato sauce, a little bit “ripassata” in the tomato sauce, as we said in Italy.

Simple and tasty recipe: peel the pumpkin and slice it in rectangular pieces, about 1cm high, flour and fry the slices in plenty of oil “nuovo” (extra virgin olive oil), until they get golden brown. Pour the tomato puree in a pan with garlic, a little olive oil, basil and you let it stay on the fire for about 10 minutes, cover the pumpkin with the tomato puree and let it stay on low heat so it humidifies properly, for about 20 minutes. Add little rosemary and then it’s done.
A stewed vegetarian chop. Exquisite!

A beautiful summer day at Giulio’s with DannyMcCubbin for his FoodTube Channel: Cooking for Good
